I’ve just finished another hour of vocals for a CD i’m doing together with Scott Rockenfield legendary drummer - yo! feels very good to be sending them off!
Was the first lullaby i’ve ever tackled.. but I had a lot of fun and it’s a lovely pretty track called ‘take me far away’… if anyone has a baby to soothe.. let me know! juliaxx
So today is all about the Lullaby - get into it! Am writing/recording one for the crew in Berlin.. It’s turning out rather nicely - although my voice is still too deep and husky - some may call that sexy - but I don’t think it’s what the KIDS WANT.. I mean.. er.. BABIES!!
No seriously.. I’m going to have some fun with this..;-) Sweet dreams y’all… julia x
Recording recording vocals! So my studio is feeling good today - no earthing problems! Am singing for a CD together with Scott Rockenfield - great drummer from Queensryche…. Raining on my tinroof.. followed by a lovely spring sun…. and I’m settling in to get quite a bit done tonight!
So I’m wondering if anyone out there can let me know what the most popular modes are in film compositions? Or if anyone has an opinion on this? And please don’t say Ionian or Aeolian! ..(major, minor)..
Ionian Mode
Dorian mode
Phrygian mode
Lydian mode
Mixolydian mode
Aeolian mode
Lochrian mode
This is a song of mine from my album “And We Danced” Available on itunes under Julia Messenger. Song is called “Unprotected”.
Song Meaning:
A Woman/Girl who feels betrayed and confused and almost astounded that her relationship is ended/ending. “Now I feel so unprotected, I feel scathed and scorn.. I got what I’ve been wanting, but what I want is gone..” An emotional and moving song with searing vocals about lost love - over orchestral, rock and electronica elements it takes you on a journey of her present loneliness and pain.
Mood: Dark, Funky, Lonely, Mysterious, Sad, Romantic, Reflective, Aggressive,
Keywords: Dark, Brooding, Betrayal, Feeling Scared, Lost Love,
Genre: Rock, Electronica, Downtempo, Orchestral
Instruments: Guitar, Piano, Strings, Bass, Drums, Electronica
Story behind the song: Likening the end of the relationship to a war zone and dreams being broken. Betrayal in Love and anger and sorrow at it’s having ended. Now that the relationship is over she’s feeling unprotected and it’s hard to stand alone mourning the loss.
This is me singing Kurt Weill’s surabaya johnny last month at Bennetts Lane Jazz Club in Melbourne - next concert Oct 8 2010… xx
